Many computer could not handle a ping packet larger than the maximum IP packet size, which is 65,535 bytes in size. If a system receives a packet maximum of this size it could crash. And here is the game begins. In POD we transmit multiple Ping requests to the targeted system, which continue sends request and makes a total ping packet size of more than 65,535 bytes in size. Eventually the targeted system becomes unable to handle such a massive size of ping packets and crashes down.
Usually the targeted system is Default gateway which transmit and receive all the requests coming from Intranet and Internet, in order to crash down the entire network. POD is also called DOS (Denial Of Services) attack or a kind of DOS attack.
