What is Social Engineering?

" Social Engineering is a hacker's trick, used to extract useful information like credentials from someone's mouth on their will, and someone's personal data by observing some particular actions done by them in their day to day life, so called Social Engineering."

Apart from Engineering social engineering is a trick used by a hacker or an intruder to extract information from your mouth on your own will and use this information to breach your securities like your passwords and user names or credentials. With the help of social Engineering you can extract information from your friends or other people by casual or friendly gossips , and by observing some data by their posts on social networking sites or from their worldly expressions and so forth.

For an instance sometimes you share your post on Facebook that Hey, guys this is my daughter Anna's birthday. So if somebody watch your post he can make a move like he got a name you like most i.e. Anna and it is a very common phenomenon that your Facebook password is also Anna and you didn't consider this thing at all while posting on fb, but it is guessed by someone else on the other side, so he got your password and if he knows your user name then you are gone. So it is an example just to consider you a case and I hope this might be helpful to you. So be safe by doing so.

Another case might be that suppose your friend asking you about your date of birth very friendly in casual talk and this is also your password on FB or blah blah blah and you also tell him about this and he has some common sense that your password might be your date of birth or the day, date or name of the month. Then he can easily bypass your credentials on the Internet. It is a very common trick used by many intruders, and usually people, are entrapped in such a trick very easily. I also did it with my friend one time and believe me it really works, but here I am not telling you how to trap people by using social engineering I am just teaching you that what is social Engineering and how is it used by intruders .

One more most important thing to let you know that never use your Girlfriend or Boyfriend name as a password, almost 90% people are being hacked by this flaw. If somebody knows about your personal information you can be hacked easily by a simple guess and this is actually called Social Engineering.
