What is a graphics card or video card and video memory?

"Graphics card also known as memory card, is a component used to process high definition images and videos, includes a RAM, heat sink or fan and GPU on a single card. It can be a PCIe or AGP card with 2D or 3D techniques."

Graphics card is an external component or unit which is used in order to process your graphics like high resolution images and so forth, basically designed for high-end users like gaming freaks, who wants to process modern first-person shooter 3D games with multi texture quality and more by their graphics card.

Graphics cards usually, includes a graphics processor i.e. called GPU (Graphics processing unit) and its own RAM with other components and also a heat sink or cooling fan to keep the card cool. So if you choose more memory or RAM then you will feel better performance, otherwise with less Graphics card memory i.e. its RAM your graphics card will share your system resources specifically RAM which degrades the system performance if system has less RAM like 1 or 2GB. If you have more RAM in your PC then it wouldn't effect on anything. Always choose more video or RAM memory card to keep your processor or CPU free.

Other most important things to know are graphics card refresh rate, operating frequency, port type and dimension type. Always remember about refresh rate while buying a graphics card that it should be at least having 60Hz refresh rate or more, and always choose more operating speed more than 1200MHz because it increases your GPU performance and your gaming experience. Other things are port type and dimensions, so if you buy a 2D graphics card and wants to play 3D then it will degrade the overall performance, however it will do if you don't want to feel 3D experience. My recommendations to you that choose 3D graphics card, because it also includes more additional features. And last thing about port is, first of all consider what port your computer support means AGP( Accelerated Graphics Port) or PCIe (Peripheral Component Interface Express), because an AGP port doesn't support a PCIe graphics card or vice-versa, because little knowledge is a dangerous thing. oops, I forgot to tell you one more important point l.e. graphics card resolution, always choose resolution equals or more than your desktop resolution.

Note

You can only add or insert a PCIe or AGP graphics card into desktop PCs. You can not upgrade or add graphics card into laptop or notebooks because they usually include on-board or integrated graphics in CPUs.

So we have learned now, What is a graphics card or video card and video memory? And what are the important points we must remember while going to buy a new one graphics card for you PC , So keep gaming and keep learning from computerflicks. Please leave comments.
